This is what I think about how Paula Deen is handling her diabetes diagnosis:
I think she values money over her health and perhaps doesn’t want to risk losing any money by rebranding herself. If she improved her diet to control the diabetes, she could be such a positve role model for so many people who suffer from a disease whose diagnosis she is taking very lightly. When the Standard American Diet continues to increase the incidence of diabetes in adults and now children, how very SAD for her and for us.
I agree with Michael Pollen who says she is “sending the wrong message”. With her announcement that she will make minor changes in how she cooks and eats and now her endorsement of a drug for diabetes, her message is – if I can manage the disease with a pill, so can you. This is definitely the wrong message because Type 2 diabetes is totally reversible with food as the medicine.
